Hi Lajon, thanks for taking the time to chat with us today! First off, how’s life treating you right now?

Lajon: Hey, Kreig, thank you for having me! Life’s good, man. We’re on the road right now, playing some shows and just living the dream. You know, it’s always a little crazy when we’re touring, but I wouldn’t want it any other way. The fans have been amazing, and the energy at the shows has been unreal.

Sevendust released "Truth Killer" in 2023, which continues to receive a ton of great feedback. How does it feel whenever you have new music out there, especially after the crazy few years we've all had?

Lajon: Honestly, it feels so great to have new music out, especially after everything that’s happened. I think we’ve all gone through so much in the past couple of years, and Truth Killer was our way of channeling all those emotions and experiences into something positive. It feels like a huge release, you know? We put everything we had into this album, and I think the fans can feel that.

Truth Killer has a real intensity to it. Was there a specific mindset or theme you guys were going for when writing that record?

Lajon: Yeah, absolutely. We wanted to capture the feeling of standing up for yourself, being genuine, and pushing through all the negativity that’s out there. It’s not necessarily a political record, but it’s definitely about staying true to who you are in the face of all the chaos. I think there’s much catharsis in the music, and it’s been a way for us to release all the tension we’ve been carrying.

You’ve been with Sevendust for so long now, and your voice is instantly recognizable. How has your approach to singing evolved over the years?

Lajon: Oh man, it’s definitely evolved a lot. When I first started, I had this raw, unpolished sound, and I just went for it. But over the years, I’ve learned how to take better care of my voice, how to breathe properly, and how to use it more efficiently. I’ve also experimented with different vocal techniques. It’s still raw when I need it to be, but now I can control it a little more. I feel like I’m in the best vocal shape I’ve ever been in, honestly.

Sevendust’s sound blends metal, hard rock, and even a bit of funk and groove. Is there a genre or influence that you’re itching to explore on future projects?

Lajon: Oh man, good question! I’ve always been a fan of soul and R&B music, so I’d love to explore that a little more. I think we’ve already started to blend a little bit of that in our newer stuff. Who knows, maybe down the road we’ll experiment even more with that kind of vibe, but for now, I think we’ve found a really good balance between all the different styles that make Sevendust what it is.

You guys have been doing this for over 25 years now. What keeps you motivated to keep making music and hitting the road year after year?

Lajon: Honestly, it’s the fans. I know that sounds cliché, but it’s true. When you’re on stage and you see the crowd going crazy, singing along, and just feeding off each other’s energy, that’s what keeps me going. Every time we step on that stage, it feels like the first time. And the bond we share as a band, too, we’re like brothers. We’ve been through so much together, and that chemistry is still there.

Speaking of the road, what’s one thing you never leave behind when you’re touring?

Lajon: My headphones! I can’t go anywhere without them. I’m always listening to music, whether it’s for inspiration or just to wind down after a show. Music is my escape, so I gotta have my headphones on me at all times.

You’ve shared the stage with some amazing bands throughout your career. If you could pick any band to tour with, living or dead, who would it be?

Lajon: Man, that’s a tough one. I think I’d have to go with Led Zeppelin. That’s a band that changed the game for so many of us, and to be able to share a stage with them would be a dream come true. The energy they brought to their shows was legendary, and it would be an honor to be a part of that history.

What’s the most memorable show Sevendust has ever played, in your opinion?

Lajon: That’s a hard one because we’ve had so many great moments. But if I had to pick, I’d say our show at the Fillmore in San Francisco a few years ago. The energy in that room was just electric. It was one of those nights where everything felt right: the crowd, the band, the sound. It’s a moment I’ll never forget.

You guys have a crazy touring schedule. How do you balance all the time on the road with family life?

Lajon: It’s definitely a challenge, but I try to make it work. We’ve been doing this long enough that we’ve learned how to juggle everything. My family knows how much this means to me, so they’re super supportive. I make it a point to stay in touch as much as possible, and when I get home, I make sure to give them all my time and attention. It’s all about finding that balance, and it’s something I’ve gotten better at over the years.

Outside of music, what’s something you’re passionate about these days?

Lajon: I’ve been getting into fitness more lately. Just trying to stay healthy and in good shape, you know? It’s easy to let things slip when you’re on the road all the time, so I’ve been making it a priority. I also love spending time with my kids. We have a lot of fun together, and I try to pass on as much wisdom as I can to them. It’s all about balance and making sure I’m present, both physically and mentally.

Last one, Lajon, what can fans expect next from Sevendust? New music? More touring?

Lajon: Oh, you know it! We’ve got more touring planned, and we’re definitely not slowing down anytime soon. As for new music, we’re always working on ideas. We’ve got a lot of creative energy right now, and we’re excited to see where it takes us. We’re not just a band, we’re a family, and we’re in it for the long haul. So yeah, there’s definitely more to come, and we can’t wait to share it with everyone.

Thank you again, Lajon, for chatting with us today. We wish you and Sevendust all the best on the road!
