15 Questions with DISPOSITIONS

Originally founded as an internet project in 2015, Dispositions was formed in the summer of 2016.

Hitting the studio before they played their first show at the So What Festival to record their debut EP, "Dead Era."  Tru Rock caught up with the band while on a break from touring.

TRR:  The band's name, Disposition.  The band's personality or a song by Tool?

DIS:  Yep.  We got our name from a Tool song named “Disposition.”

TRR:  Gotta love Tool.  Tell me about the band.  Who are you guys?

DIS:  There's 5 of us in the band.

Ethan Massey - Guitar

Jameson White - Guitar

Cody Hambright - Vocals

Taylor Gundvaldson - Bass

Jeff Funk - Drums

TRR:  How did all of you meet?

DIS:  Ethan and a Taylor have known each other since they were 4 years old.  We met Jameson through playing with his old local band.  Jeff contacted us when we were looking for a new drummer. Taylor and Ethan met Cody when him and his brother shot a music video for our old band.

TRR:  Your sound is definitely heavy.  How would you classify your music?

DIS:  We tip toe back and forth between metalcore and deathcore

TRR:  What do you think makes your band stand out from others?

DIS:  Definitely our live show and online presence.

TRR:  Over the past few decades, rock music has been the “red headed step-child”, rarely even mentioned on award shows like the Grammys, which has become very irrelevant.  Do you feel that rock is starting to climb the ladder again?

DIS:  The thing about heavy music is that it never has to be main stream in order to be “successful.”

Heavy music isn’t meant to be like the mindless pop music like you hear today.

TRR:  I imagine your influences are not light rock.  Who helped pave the way for Dispositions?

DIS:  Definitely not light rock.  (laughing)  Architects, Black Tongue, Wage War, Linkin Park, Limp Bizkit

TRR:  How do you write your songs?  Is it a collaborative effort?

DIS:  Mostly Ethan or Jameson will write out a song on guitar and drums on their recording rigs, then it gets sent to the rest of the guys to either move forward collaboratively or not use it at all.

TRR:  Speaking of collaborative, if you could get together with any band or musician to record a song together, who would that be?

DIS:  Personally I’d love to get together with Tool.

TRR:  Well, if Maynard is reading this....."Hey Maynard, call Dispositons!"

DIS: (laughing)  Yeah!

TRR:  Give me some bands you'd like to tour with or be on the same ticket with.

DIS:  Wow.  Honestly, there's too many to list but maybe Attila, Architects, Parkway Drive.

TRR:  That's a solid list of bands there.  I think that would be a good fit.  Tell me about one of those shows you had or a tour when it just didn't go right.

DIS: (laughing) We got stranded in Louisiana for 2 days because our transmission went out on a Friday night and all the shops were closed.

TRR:  I guess it wasn't too funny at the time.

DIS:  Uh, no.

TRR:  Ok.  You had the bad tour.  Hopefully that's the worst of it.  Now, tell me, what would be your dream show?

DIS:  Tool, Parkway Drive, Linkin Park, Architects, Limp Bizkit, and us.

TRR:  What’s on the table for the rest of 2019.  I can't believe the year is almost over.

DIS:  It goes fast.  Yeah, we have a headliner at The Rail Club in Fort Worth on 11/15.  Then, we go to California the next weekend to play a couple shows and that’s about it!

TRR:  Is there anyone you’d like to give a shout out to or thank you to?

DIS:  Always gotta give a shout out to our brother Daniel Hambright from Elynia Productions.

TRR:  Who is he?

DIS:  He does all our music video, promos, merch designs, and anything promotional.  He’s our 6th member.

TRR:  That's an important person.  It's hard to find that person.  Hold on to him.  Guys, thanks for the interview.  Keep us in the loop

when you have new music coming out.  We look forward to hearing all of it.

DIS:  Thank you Tru Rock
